Marshalls – $3 Jackpot

P1010018P1010021

The dress looks better in real life than that horrible pic.  It wouldn’t fit over Mona the dress form’s shoulders for a good pic.  So a limp hanging pic will have to do.  But who cares about the dress pic, check out the fuzzy price tag pic!  Original price was $40, Marshalls’ initial price was $19.99, then red tag to something else lower, then yellow tag to something else even lower, then yellow tag again to something lower still, then yellow tag AGAIN to $3, then I bought it.  That’s 92.5% off of original price for all of you too boggled and in awe to do the math.

The real kicker?  My mom got 1 pair of pants and 2 pairs of shorts for the price of my $3 dress.  Yup, she paid $1 each.  That kinda rocks.

Goodwill Hunting

Inspired by CheapJap, I dropped by the Goodwill in Chelsea a couple of weeks ago and with a bit of patient browsing, I left with a couple of decent finds…

Shareen Vintage

DSCN0648DSCN0647

I finally made it to Shareen Vintage this week after months of procrastination and dilly-dallying.  I can easily get addicted to this place.  Located in Chelsea, Shareen Vintage has two big rooms full of girly vintage goodness.  I spent a bit over an hour browsing through a ton of dresses, skirts, gowns, belts, etc. and in a moment of rare self restraint, purchased five items rather than the twenty I wanted.  First up is this grey and pink diagonal striped tunic/dress with all over pleats.  The sleeves are puffy and the whole piece is lined.  For a taller person, this can be a tunic, but for me, it definitely works as a knee length dress because I’m so short.  Come see more…

Shoe Makeovers

James Baigrie for Real Simple

Here’s another reuse tip from Real Simple – if you’re tired of your shoes the way they are, give them a makeover.  I always knew you can add embellishments or dye your shoes (if they are dyeable), but I never thought I would be able to change the heel or toe or make a tall boot short!  This could mean a whole new life for your shoes and a whole new shoe wardrobe for you!  It’s definitely cheaper than buying new shoes.

Shoe Closet Reorganization

DSCN0640

This past Sunday, my husband and I re-organized our shoe closet.  It’s located in the entry way and before we moved in, we installed Elfa shelving and brought along our clear shoe and boot boxes all from The Container Store.  This was part of our gung-ho campaign to get and keep ourselves more organized.  Prior to this in our Astoria apartment, our shoes basically lived right by the front door in a line maybe 5 feel long, pairs on top of each other on top of each other on top of each other.  Not only was it difficult to find shoes, but it made the entry way a busy, messy and cluttered area.

jcrew white shirt

We all have days where we wake up and don’t want to think about what to wear because we’re too exhausted, but still want to look presentable.  Or maybe you have a last minute interview and realized your years of toiling in a business casual environment have left your closet a bit bereft of some things comfortable, yet professional.

Here are some items to the rescue that every closet should have – basics that will work both on casual and not so casual days – no-brainer pieces that will allow you to get dressed smartly in a minute. Continue reading…

Cheap Monday

CheapMondayBlkThese are my first pair of Cheap Monday jeans.  They are the tight & straight fit with stretch (because everyone needs a bit of stretch, ok?) in black.  I say this is my first pair because after having worn them for the first time today, I am in intense like with these jeans.  Not love, not yet.  Maybe by the 3rd date…I just need to get to know it better… Continue reading…
