Beautiful Headboards

Monochrome-bedroom

We currently don’t have a headboard and I’ve never really gave them too much thought.  I’ve always leaned toward the minimal in the bedroom because I never wanted to feel crowded in.  Also, I think that when it’s bedtime, the less things there are around me, the calmer and more peaceful sleep I’ll get.  Clear space, clear mind.

I’m not against having something at the head of the bed, if the piece moves me.  This HUGE bespoke canvas definitely does the trick.  The black & white makes the whole piece easy on the eyes and mind and along with the rest of the monochromatic scheme, makes a gigantic statement.

Here are some more that I find interesting and might be do-able in our bedroom…

Etsy Metal – Industrial Home Accessories

vintage tin breadbox

I’ve been quite enamored with all things industrial, metal and weathered.  The color and patina of this bread box by graceartandantiques is so lovely and I can definitely see it used in other parts of the home besides the kitchen.  Continue reading…

Gift of Experience

Image from Xperience Days

I’m not the best present gifter.  I get lost amidst a sea of options, but I always like to put some good thought and personal touches behind the gift.  Last year, I was stuck trying to find the perfect gift for my husband for his birthday.  I searched and googled for long hours and finally, I found what I felt was perfect – a Ninja lesson!  How cool and fun would that be?!  Long story short, I didn’t end up getting that for him…he didn’t think it was as cool and fun as I did (whatever), but nevertheless, I happened upon a new world of gifting… Continue reading…

Education on Farts

Fart

No, I’m not trying to be cute here.  It’s way too early in the morning for humor.  And way too early to post.  But I must get this out to the rest of the world that have yet to stumble upon this encyclopedic compilation of farting facts.  This is a must read for all humans and animals that have an intestinal system.  Please share, it’s making my day.

My husband (a cheese and beer lover) – please don’t skim as usual, you need to read and absorb this.  It could save our marriage.

Recycle Everything from Cell Phones to Yogurt

We all know recycling is important, right?  We all make conscious efforts to recycle to the best of our abilities, right?  Although the husband and I are quite studious in our recycling habits, there are times when we get stuck on how to recycle certain things… Continue reading…

Canine Disarming

Jake Stevens for The Los Angeles Times

Canine disarming is when the sharp points of a dog’s canines are cut away, then the pulp is acid-etched (much like sealants for humans, I’m guessing), a cavity is made, then filled with human-grade composite.  Purpose of this procedure is to “disarm” a dog by taking away their most frightful weapons.  LA Times followed Cotton, an American Eskimo, through the procedure.  What a god awful thing to do… Continue reading…

Interest Rate on Savings Tank

chart_low_low_rates

According to CNN Money, interest rates for our hard earned and harder saved money are going downhill at a steady clip.  I can personally attest to this as I watch the interest rate for our ING Direct Orange Savings deflate from a respectable 3.057% back in March 2008 to a paltry 1.391% as of July 3rd, 2009.  Pretty pathetic… Continue reading…

2-D Love

Massato Seto for The New York Times

I peruse The NY Times daily and today, I happened upon this article about a Japanese subculture called otaku (people who are obsessed, mainly with anime, manga and video games) and within otaku, moe (a fetishistic love with the 2-d characters)… Continue reading…

Indoor Flooring Options

Marmoleum Flooring by linoleumstore.com

Most people think wood or carpet when they think of indoor flooring.  Although hardwood is THE quintessential flooring option – it’s warm, easy to clean, will last a lifetime if properly cared for, increases and/or maintains property value, comes in a variety of woods, stains, treatments, etc. – there are other options out there…and some oldies are new again…
