Brimfield Flea Markets – What We Brought Back
Although we went to Brimfield with a sizeable wish list of items (mostly furniture – tables, bookcases, etc.), we were unable to fulfill most of the list for two main reasons:
1. We only had one day to spend there and were only able to walk two fields.
2. The weather was crappy – rain, rain and more rain. We were wet, the tents were wet, the goods were wet and it was just kind of muddy overall. As a result, one of the vendors told us, a good amount of vendors were not there, or were there with limited goods – foregoing larger furniture items.
Regardless, we did come home with a few things we loved and we’re proud that we didn’t end up buying a lot just because some items were cheap and/or interesting. We don’t like clutter, after all and we want to put what we got to good use…
First up is the vintage iron square bathhouse hook above. This baby is 6 inches squared and most definitely has some weight to it. We love the font and could not resist the fact that you had to pay extra for soap and towel (we wonder how much extra? 5 cents? 10 cents?). We scooped up two of these (that was all they had) for $20 bucks total. These will go either in the entrance way for keys and such or in the kitchen for towels.
A dark wood (mahogany?) mirror with gold trim on the inside. It’s about a foot and a half in height. I’m planning to use it as part of my hallway/entry way project. We have a really long and narrow hall/entry way – I want to put up a wall of cream colored mirrors, all different shapes and sizes. I have 4 mirrors in my stash right now. If I include this mirror, then I will need to paint it cream but keep the gold trim. However, I am digging that dark wood…maybe this can be a one off. Price tag was $12, we paid $10. Way to go bargaining!
Some dead stock ribbons – there was a bucketful of them. Three rolls for $10 – each roll is 10 yards long.
I love that this brooch looks almost like some sea creature, about an inch round…$15.
Donkey pin – he looks shocked or aghast about something and his ears are enormous…$5.
This is a big thick slab of walnut. 4 feet long, 17 inches deep and 3 inches thick. This was the last find of our day at Brimfield and we spied it as we were trudging back to the car at the end of the day. Here’s the deal – we have been looking for an organic surfboard shaped piece of wood of this approximate size for over one year. We’ve imagined it as a breakfast table in our kitchen banquet nook for so long. With walnut being our favorite wood, it must have been sheer luck that we walked by this slab of perfection leaning haphazardly against a table. Now we just have to figure out what kind of base or legs to put on this guy. I’m seeing something like black steel hairpins…my husband is seeing black iron pedestal, black will play off the markings perfectly. It might take us another year to decide and we appreciate any help and suggestions! Oh, we paid $100 for this. Tried for $90, but no can do! $100 is worth it after a over a year’s worth of non-fruitful searching.
