Recycled Houses – Homes Made From Trash
Michael Stravato for The New York Times
Dan Phillips is a pretty amazing Renaissance man. At 64, he is the founder and owner of Phoenix Commotion – based in Huntsville, Texas. He has five employees and together, they build homes with salvaged materials, trash and even bones for low income folks. So far, they have built 14 of these green and sustainable homes. My hope is they will continue building and continue to provide needed housing for folks in a bit of a rough patch and continue to raise recycling and reusing awareness. Take a peek at some of his beautiful homes…
Top picture is a door made with the bottom of wine bottles – it lets light in organically.

Roof made from old shingles. Reminds me of a Hobbit home – it’s a compliment.
